Business owners often wear many hats at once, and are business juggling sales, accounting, marketing, hiring, managing logistics, and more. These things often take precedence over self-care, which can lead to stress, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. As we enter the Holiday Season, we want you to take care of yourself – because you deserve it.

Schedule Time for Yourself

The Holiday Season is a time to be around friends, family, and loved ones. This is not a time to stress about balancing the books, pushing sales, or launching marketing campaigns. Those are ongoing things, so you should take time for yourself to clear your mind. Read a book. Take a nap. Treat yourself to a good meal. Go for a walk or a drive. Engage in your passions and hobbies. Scheduling time for yourself away from work no only recharges your batteries, but also helps you look at your business with fresh eyes so you can find solutions that may have been eluding you because you’ve been running on empty.

Seek New Knowledge

No business owner can know everything. Reading a book or taking a self-enrichment course can spark new inspiration and motivation that you can apply to your business or management style. Reading a book also allows you to escape from the stress of day-to-day work. Listening to a podcast is another great way to learn new things while immersing yourself in other activities. Knowledge is guilt-free distraction, because you get to escape the stresses of work and passively invest in yourself. Or go far to the other end and find a good story or movie. There is a lot to be said for escaping reality entirely and depressurizing.

Self-Care Is Important…

…Yet it’s the one thing many of us ignore or put off for too long. The success of your business, our ability to deal with issues, the ability to enjoy being around your loved ones – none of this is possible unless you are taking care of yourself first. This is not “being selfish,” this is self-care. So this holiday season, take time to take care of yourself. Not only will you feel better, but taking care of yourself and doing the things you enjoy will impact others in a positive way, because your outlook and demeanor will change, and you will be able to handle any situation with a smile.
